Mary Nevins

Instruments: Lead Vocals, Acoustic Guitar

Mary Nevins is the lead vocalist and acoustic guitarist for Sun Queen. She is the original "Sun Queen" who started the concept for this band. Sun Queen was created in her time at college in Nashville. She had the opportunity to play with a couple of friends and record at the campus studio. Everything before “Yellow Light” was written and recorded at this time. Since moving back to Chicago, she reconnected with friends who are the current band members of Sun Queen. Together, they are working on building up the original Sun Queen sound while adding new elements from each member of the group. Born from a punk rock mom who essentially had residence at the Metro in Chicago in the 1980s, music has been a foundation of Mary’s life since birth. She started playing in a band in high school and set the spark for loving to play live shows. Her inspiration for singing and writing stem from artists that were staples throughout her childhood and teen years. These artists include Dolores O’Riordan, Brittany Howard, Amy Winehouse, Chrissie Hynde, and Annie Clark. She is grateful to her clients she works with as a speech-language pathologist as they push her to be compassionate and open creatively and personally. She is always down for a Stardew Valley and soup eating date.
